Already a year ago, students of Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium took action and sent money that they had earned to a school in Equador. The students had cleaned shoes or sold ‘cocktails’; each grade had come up with a very special idea.
The highlight of the campaign was the Benefit concert. It had been prepared by the students’ council together with their teachers Ms. Arlt and Ms. Pfitzner.
The Benefit concert took place on May 31st. Our students’ council’s presidents presented the program. Our principal, Mr. Wenzel opened the concert with a short speech. Some grades contributed to the concert by performing as a choir or an orchestra, some students played the violin. The drama group performed a stage play they had written themselves. It was a witty piece that the audience loved.
After intermission, the aid-project was introduced. The presentation offered the audience an impression of the bad conditions in the small town near Quitos. After that, the students sang Michael Jackson’s song ‘We are the world’. The concert ended with students of grade 11 that together with the students of grade 10/3 sang Xavier Naidoo’s song ‘Bitte hör nicht auf zu träumen’. Equal to all of the students was their excitement of their going on stage, but once they started to perform they acted with confidence and gave 100 percent.
A small cafe spiced up everyone’s evening with fruit skewers wrapped in chocolate and fruit cocktails.
All in all, the Benefit concert was a great success and we received generous donations. A big thank you to all donors for their support!
